Grounding yourself with the Earth
How our ? help us to ground
Our feet not only support us, they are conductors of energy for our body. This is known as ‘grounding’.
Ensuring we are grounded is a vital element of walking a spiritual path. Grounding is the act of balancing your spiritual and physical energy by connecting yourself with the earth.
We have to be grounded in order to know where our base is and where we are coming from. If we do not ground ourselves, eventually we will go ‘high’ on spiritual energy and the only way down is with a bump!
To stay connected with our body is to connect with the earth. The support of this grounding energy keeps us anchored deep into the roots of the soil and grounded in the reality of existence. Having a strong foundation and a healthy grounding energy, we are able to face what is in front of us with calmness and security.
What does grounding mean?
When we are not grounded, we might feel stressed, rushed, panicked, angry, clumsy, drained, overwhelmed, confused, or spacey.
Spiritual Grounding is a technique in yogic traditions, where the energy that corresponds to our connection and grounding to the earth is cultivated through the root chakra. This first energy centre, located at the base of the spine, is where our body is connected to the universal source of life-sustaining energy. The Root Chakra, helps to bridge the gap between your physical self and your spiritual self.
When we lose energy in the root chakra it makes us feel ungrounded and insecure with our surroundings or situation. Many of us aren’t grounded, due to stress, lack of mindfulness, but sometimes even trauma. Fears of dealing with “the here and now” also keep us from being grounded.
A healthy root chakra means a strong connection to our inner rooted self; which, in turn, provides us with a secure home to experience life from. Without a strong, rooted foundation, little can be accomplished and other aspects of our life can become weak and unsatisfied. To stay connected with the body is to connect with the earth. The support of this grounding energy keeps us anchored deep into the roots of the soil and grounded in the reality of existence.
Why are synthetic soles and footwear bad for our health?
Throughout virtually all of history, humans were either barefoot or used animal hides (leather) for footwear. When leather becomes moist, as a result of perspiration from the feet, a channel of conductivity for electron flow is created between the Earth and the feet. Rubber and plastics are electrical insulators and therefore block the beneficial flow of electrons from the Earth to our bodies.
Spend time in nature
They call it ‘grounding’ for a reason. Nature helps defuse the tension within us, and relaxes our minds and bodies.
You don’t even need to be active. Relax on a park bench in the sunshine on a winter’s day, dig in the garden, wander along the shoreline, fly a ?
If you can, take your shoes off and stand with your bare feet on the earth. Walk around for a bit if that is possible. This allows you to discharge built up electromagnetic energy, and re-orient your body’s inner compass.
If you suffer from feeling ‘spacey’, exhausted, drained or disconnected, bare-footed reconnection to the Earth will do you wonders! You could also rest with your back against a tree or dance in a field.
Even if you’re really skeptical about earthing and its benefits, it’s something that’s free to try and really can’t hurt!
I encourage you to get outside, put your bare feet on the ground, and see if you notice anything different in the way you feel, whether it’s reduced pain or just better sleep and increased energy because of it.
It’s really amazing to think just how healing this planet really is; from the beautiful food that grows here to nourish us to the benefits of just lying in the grass on a sunny afternoon.
